Manuscript Types

Acta Biochimica Indonesiana publishes scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related disciplines. Manuscripts are evaluated based on their scientific originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and contribution to the existing body of knowledge.

The journal recognizes three manuscript categories: Research Articles, Short Communications, and Review Articles. Authors should select the appropriate manuscript type according to the nature, scope, and extent of the research presented.

Research Articles

Research Articles present original scientific findings that make a significant contribution to the understanding of biochemical or molecular biological processes. Submissions are expected to address a clearly defined research question, employ appropriate and reproducible methodologies, and provide a critical interpretation of the findings in relation to current scientific knowledge.

Research Articles should contain sufficient experimental or analytical detail to allow independent assessment of the research. The main text should be organized into Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion, followed by the required declarations and references.

Research Articles should contain approximately 3,000 to 5,000 words, including references and figure captions, and should not exceed 50 references.

Short Communications

Short Communications report concise but scientifically significant findings that warrant timely dissemination. This category is intended for focused research, preliminary findings of exceptional relevance, methodological innovations, or the development of experimental techniques and models that offer meaningful contributions to the field.

Although shorter than Research Articles, Short Communications must present a clear research objective, sound methodology, adequately supported results, and conclusions consistent with the evidence.

Short Communications must not exceed 2,500 words, including references and figure captions, and should cite at least 10 primary research references.

Short Communications are subject to the same standards of scientific integrity and peer review as other research manuscripts.

Review Articles

Review Articles provide critical and comprehensive evaluations of established knowledge, recent developments, and emerging directions in a specific area of biochemistry or molecular biology.

A Review Article should extend beyond a descriptive summary of existing publications by critically examining the available evidence, identifying inconsistencies or gaps in current understanding, and presenting a coherent perspective on future research opportunities.

Review manuscripts may contain up to 5,000 words, including references and figure captions. Approximately 80% of the references should be drawn from primary research articles.

Submission of Review Articles is subject to editorial consideration. In accordance with the journal's published announcement regarding limitations on review submissions, prospective authors are advised to contact the editorial office before preparing or submitting a Review Article. Proposals addressing timely topics of substantial scientific interest may be considered at the editors' discretion.

General Requirements

All manuscripts submitted to Acta Biochimica Indonesiana must represent original scholarly work that has not been previously published or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

Authors must follow the journal's manuscript preparation requirements, including the appropriate reporting of funding information, conflicts of interest, author contributions, research ethics, and relevant supporting data.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal's scientific, editorial, or formatting requirements may be returned for revision or declined before external peer review.

Authors should consult the Author Guidelines and the journal's manuscript template before submission.
