Corrections and Retractions

Acta Biochimica Indonesiana (ActaBioIna) is committed to preserving the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record.

The journal recognizes that errors, methodological concerns, or ethical issues may be identified after publication. Such matters will be evaluated and addressed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Post-publication editorial actions may include corrections, addenda, expressions of concern, or retractions, depending on the nature and severity of the issue.

1. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article but the main findings and conclusions remain reliable.

Examples include errors in data presentation, statistical reporting, figures, tables, author information, or other relevant components of the publication.

Corrections may take the form of a corrigendum for author-related errors or an erratum for errors introduced during the editorial or production process.

A correction notice will identify the original article, describe the changes, and explain their significance when necessary.

2. Addenda

An addendum may be published when important supplementary information becomes available after publication and is necessary to clarify or improve the interpretation of an article.

An addendum must not be used to conceal errors or substantially alter findings that would otherwise require formal correction or retraction.

3. Expressions of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when serious questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article but the available evidence is insufficient to support a final editorial decision.

Such notices may be appropriate when an investigation is ongoing, evidence remains inconclusive, or relevant institutions have not yet completed their assessments.

The journal will reassess the notice when additional reliable information becomes available.

4. Retractions

A published article may be retracted when its findings or conclusions are substantially unreliable due to serious errors, research misconduct, or other significant violations of publication ethics.

Grounds for retraction may include fabricated or falsified data, plagiarism, duplicate publication, serious methodological errors, inappropriate image manipulation, compromised peer review, or major ethical violations affecting the reliability or legitimacy of the publication.

Retractions may also be warranted when substantial problems arise from honest errors. The purpose of retraction is to correct the scientific literature, not to punish authors.

5. Retraction Procedures

Before issuing a retraction, the Editorial Board will assess the available evidence and, where appropriate, request explanations from the authors and consult relevant institutions or independent experts.

The final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief or an independent editor where a conflict of interest exists.

A retraction notice will clearly identify the affected article, explain the reason for retraction, and indicate the party issuing the notice.

Retraction notices will be publicly accessible and linked to the original articles. Retracted articles will ordinarily remain available in the scholarly record with a clear indication of their retracted status.

Complete removal of published content will be considered only under exceptional circumstances involving significant legal, privacy, or safety concerns.

6. Publication Record and Transparency

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices will be clearly identified and linked to the affected publications, with appropriate metadata updates where technically feasible.

The journal will maintain transparent publication records to ensure that readers can distinguish valid findings from corrected or unreliable content.

7. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors who identify significant errors in their published work must promptly notify the Editorial Office and cooperate with any necessary corrections or investigations.

ActaBioIna is committed to handling post-publication issues fairly, promptly, and transparently in accordance with established publication ethics standards.
